Family Literacy

Reading Begins Here is our cornerstone for family literacy, offering a professional, low-pressure way to get the answers you need. There are no tests and nothing to enroll in—just expert support to help your family read well. Book a 30-minute virtual chat to discuss your child’s reading. We help you understand what you are seeing and guide you on how to help them read well. If we don’t know the answer, we will find someone who does.

Adult Reading Help

 Our Reading Labs teach adults to read through staff-led classes that are free of cost. English-fluent adults who read below a 9th grade level access to our public labs. You can drop in any time and work on activities to help you read well. Road to Work

Job Readiness

 Road to Work prepares adults to find good jobs and succeed in the workforce. Learn key steps like choosing a job, building a resume, applying and interviewing, and learning to do well once on the job. We’re here to support the journey to new jobs and a fresh start. For Spring 2026, Road to Work is open free to all residents of Transitions Homeless Center. The class meets every Wednesday at 12:45 pm. LEARN MORE >>

The Family Pages

Family Literacy

Family Pages gives free books to families to encourage reading well at home. Each caregiver enrolled in Turning Pages receives a free book for every child in their household. We also give out books at local events and back-to-school bashes. Since launching at the end of 2024, we have given away over 1,000 books to Midlands families. All books are brand new, thanks to our partnership with The Lisa Libraries in New York.

Our cursive class is built with families in mind. For caregivers and the kids they adore. Wish your handwritten notes or signature looked more polished? Our new Signature Ready: Cursive Confidence workshop is perfect for families to learn, relearn, or improve their cursive handwriting.
