Our tutors meet adult learners at the library every week to practice reading. To do that, they need supplies. We provide every Turning Pages tutor across Richland, Lexington, Aiken and Saluda Counties in central South Carolina with a Curriculum Kit. This kit is a bag filled with the specific books and tools they need to teach their learner to read well. We provide these for free so nothing stands in the way of learning.
We need a crew to help us sort books, organize supplies, and pack these kits assembly-line style. It’s fast, it’s hands-on, and it makes a huge difference.
Students: This is a great way to get service hours for Beta Club and other volunteer requirements for school. We welcome kids ages 10 and up as long as a parent or guardian volunteers with them. We will sign off on your forms to show you’ve volunteered with us.
What will volunteers do?
You’ll be part of an assembly line. You will:
- Unbox and sort new books.
- Count out supplies for each kit.
- Pack bags according to a simple checklist.
- Move finished kits to the staging area.
What will volunteers need to bring or wear?
- Wear: Comfortable clothes and closed-toed shoes (you’ll be on your feet).
- Bring: If you are a student, bring your service hour forms for us to sign.
- Note: We’ll have water and music going to keep the energy up!
