South CarolinaVolunteer
Become a vital link in the Literacy SC efforts to help others read well. Our Pair Care Volunteers provide the monthly touchpoints that our adult learners and tutors need to feel supported and heard.
The RoleVolunteer
As a Pair Care Volunteer, you will be assigned to specific tutors and learners within our Turning Pages Adult Reading Program. Time commitment is under three hours monthly. Once a month, you will:
- Connect: Place a brief, friendly check-in phone call to your assigned tutors and learners.
- Listen: Use our guide to ask about their progress or any needs they have.
- Share: Submit those updates through our rapid online form.
That’s it! You don’t need to solve problems. You are simply our ears. Your feedback helps our branch coordinators maintain a high standard of instructional care.
OrientationNo Obligation
This 30-minute virtual session covers our Care Guide, guidelines, and the feedback process. Once complete, you’ll be ready to make an impact on SC literacy rates right from home.
Orientation: February 12 @ 6:30 pm, March 14 @ 3 pm, and May 16 @ 3 pm
No Obligation: At the end of the session, we will invite you to take on your first assignment. Commitment lasts six months. If you decide the role isn’t the right fit for you right now—that is okay! There are many ways to serve with us, and we want to ensure you are in a role that aligns with your strengths. Once complete, if you choose to move forward, you’ll be ready make a real impact from the comfort of home.
