Do You Want to Read Better?
Columbia is a big, busy city.
Whether you are catching The COMET bus on Assembly Street, heading to work on Two Notch Road, or spending time with family in Eau Claire, being able to read well makes every day easier. If you find yourself struggling with signs, mail, or job forms, you are not alone. Many of our neighbors in Richland County feel the same way, and we are here to help you get where you want to go.
Literacy SC is here to help. We teach adults how to read well. Our program is free. You do not have to pay for books or help.
How to get started
Call our Readi Page line at 803-216-5663.
When you call, leave a message with your name and phone number. Tell us you want to learn to read well. Meredith will listen to your message and call you back to set up a time for you to meet us.
Where to find us
When Meredith calls you back, she will ask you to come to our office one time to sign up.
We are at 2062 N. Beltline Blvd, Columbia, SC 29204.
Look for the First Christian Church. We are inside the church, across from Ace Hardware. Park in the lower lot and walk up the big circle driveway. You will see our Literacy SC sign on the door.
Meeting at your library
Once you are signed up, you and your tutor will meet at the Richland Library that you like best. With 13 locations—from St. Andrews and Ballentine to Lower Richland and Sandhills—there is always a quiet table waiting for you.
You will meet for just one hour a week. It is private, it is free, and we go at your speed.
Give us a call and leave that message for Meredith today. We can’t wait to help you start this new chapter. You are not alone. Many adults in Columbia and Richland County want to read better. It is never too late to learn.
Important: You must have a time set up to meet us. We do not take walk-ins. No one will be at the office. Please call first!
