Helping Adults in Central SC Read Well Since 1968

Our nonprofit teaches adults and families practical skills in reading, writing and math to build confidence in daily life. Our flagship free programs teach adults to read through private tutoring and group classes. Our low cost workshops follow our learn more, earn more, do more philosophy that allows for gradual growth and confidence.

Free Programs

Our flagship program, Turning Pages Adult Reading Program, provides free private tutoring for English-fluent adults who read below a 9th grade level. Its counterpart is a free group reading class for unhoused adults who read below a 4th grade level.

Low Cost Programs

We have low cost group workshops focusing on math, study skills and career language. Each workshop is a stand-alone class focusing on a specific topic.

Kind Words About Us

Words make me imagine and feel things that I have never experienced. I’ve read six big books this past year! SIX! I’m actually reading! I’ve never done that before.”

Turning Pages Learner

“One of my volunteer buddies mentioned how his grandson has been learning how to read. Said it’s been really transformational for him, that they were excited about all the opportunities he was about to have like GED and driving. Seeing him be so genuinely excited for his grandson was beautiful. Y’all are doing great work! ❤️

“As a retired teacher, it’s almost a reflex to volunteer in literacy. Helping others through Turning Pages allows me to give back to my community and help others move forward in life.”
