Overview

Only 24 Hours Monthly | W-2 Role | Non-Exempt |$25 /Hour (Onsite & Remote)

Literacy SC seeks a part-time F.A.R. Program Instructor to teach adult reading classes onsite at Transitions Homeless Shelter in Columbia, SC.

Schedule

  • Two one-hour daytime (between 10-2 PM) classes per week to include set up and wrap up (4 hours onsite each week)
  • Two hours weekly remote prep time
  • Total: Up to 6 hours weekly / 24 hours monthly

Responsibilities

  • Teach basic reading and phonics to adult groups (up to 16 per class)
  • Complete 12-week curriculum cycles using Literacy SC’s materials
  • Create a supportive, adaptive learning environment
  • Maintain attendance records
  • Provide program feedback to CEO

Required Skills

  • High school diploma and background in adult education or literacy
  • Experience leading or teaching diverse adults in group settings
  • Ability to explain basic phonics concepts clearly and patiently
  • Comfort teaching without digital technology aids
  • Ability to navigate Google Worksuite and use company email
  • Well-organized, independent and self-motivated
  • Strong professional boundaries
  • Reliable transportation to Transitions Homeless Shelter

Additional Information

  • Background check required and paid for by Literacy SC
  • Laptop, supplies, and all curriculum provided
  • This part-time position does not include benefits
  • Able to stand and move around classroom for up to one hour
  • Able to speak and read English and write legibly on materials
