Denise A. Lynch was born in Newport Beach, CA but grew up on the east coast. She graduated from Clarion University where she met and married her husband of more than forty years, and together they raised their two boys.

She earned her Master’s Degree as a reading specialist at Duquesne University while teaching elementary aged special needs students. Later, she transferred to the middle school where she taught ELA and reading and became the reading department chairperson.

Denise wrote her first children’s book, PB&J as a way to help her fourth grade students learn about writing. When the book was finished, her students encouraged her to have it published. Her second book, Ant Farm, whose main character is learning disabled, is loosely based on one of the special needs students she helped teach. When asked why she chose a learning disabled main character she replied,  “It’s important for kids to see the struggles learning disabled students deal with on a daily basis. It helps them have more compassion for others.”

Soon after retiring, Denise and her husband moved to Leesville, SC. Now, when she’s not writing, she is busy spending time with her two grandchildren, volunteering as a docent at the South Carolina State Museum, or helping rehab turtles at the Carolina Wildlife Center.

She is also a member of the Lexington chapter of the South Carolina Writer’s Association. You can visit her on Facebook at www.facebook.com/justdeniselynch.
