This year, Authors for Literacy welcomes in some of our area’s youngest talent! This dynamic duo will be sharing the spotlight as they promote their book, Susan’s Christmas.
Aliya, the author, is a midlands student who loves school and books. She always gets her homework done quickly so she can play with her brothers, friends, or her kitties. Her room always has stacks of books handy for late night or early morning reading. She has too many favorites to list. She even started a book club to share her love of reading with other girls her age. Aliya wrote “Susan’s Christmas” in her 3rd grade ELA class and wrapped it up to surprise her mom for Christmas. Her next big goal is to write a chapter book.
Joanelise, the illustrator, is a local midlands middle schooler who was originally from Florida. Her medium of choice is watercolors but she also does work in digital art, pastels, acrylic, and pencil. Joanelise enjoys drawing figures and bringing them to life with unique colors and features. She loves creating and her artwork has even been featured on her elementary school yearbook cover! Her art education has improved by trying out for Honors Art and gaining a spot for 2 years in a row, as well as attending summer art programs to expand her knowledge. She stays in tough with her passion for art by carrying around a sketchbook so when ideas come to mind, she can sketch them out immediately.
