Only 24 Hours Monthly | W-2 Role | Non-Exempt |$25 /Hour (Onsite & Remote)
Literacy SC seeks a part-time F.A.R. Program Instructor to teach adult reading classes onsite at Transitions Homeless Shelter in Columbia, SC.
Schedule
- Two one-hour daytime (between 10-2 PM) classes per week to include set up and wrap up (4 hours onsite each week)
- Two hours weekly remote prep time
- Total: Up to 6 hours weekly / 24 hours monthly
Responsibilities
- Teach basic reading and phonics to adult groups (up to 16 per class)
- Complete 12-week curriculum cycles using Literacy SC’s materials
- Create a supportive, adaptive learning environment
- Maintain attendance records
- Provide program feedback to CEO
Required Skills
- High school diploma and background in adult education or literacy
- Experience leading or teaching diverse adults in group settings
- Ability to explain basic phonics concepts clearly and patiently
- Comfort teaching without digital technology aids
- Ability to navigate Google Worksuite and use company email
- Well-organized, independent and self-motivated
- Strong professional boundaries
- Reliable transportation to Transitions Homeless Shelter

- Laptop, supplies, and all curriculum provided
- This part-time position does not include benefits
- Able to stand and move around classroom for up to one hour
- Able to speak and read English and write legibly on materials
